The Sacrament of the Sick
The Sacrament of the Sick is one of two sacraments that provides the faithful with the opportunity to encounter the healing power of Christ.
Those who are facing serious illness, mental or physical, or a preparing for surgery should avail themselves to this sacrament. Anointed on the head and hands by a priest with the blessed Oil of the Sick brings healing and peace.
The Sacrament of the Sick is celebrated at all Masses on two weekends each year (late fall and the second Sunday of Lent.) On most weekends, the priest would be able to anoint the sick after any Mass.
The Sacrament of the Sick can also be celebrated at home or a healthcare facility by appointment. Please contact the Parish Office, 973-226-0979 during regular business hours.
“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the priests of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:14-16
